ENERGY PROVISION OPTIONS
Since 2001 and the Deregulation of the Electrical Industry in Alberta, CAREA has chosen to provide a stable energy option for our members. From 2001 through 2005 this was accomplished through the Government approved Regulated Rate. The rule for the Regulated Rate changed in 2006 and while we are still required to provide this as an option to our members, it is not recommended by the Board of Directors. CAREA worked with Government to reach a solution that allowed us to continue to provide a stable energy rate to our members.
The majority of our members are currently on our 6.1 Energy Service Contract which expires at the end of 2010. Beginning in 2011 we will no longer be calling our stable energy rate 6.1 Energy Provision. With the signing of new contracts it is now called “Cooperative Energy Rate Provision.” The new Contract begins January 1, 2011. Your current 6.1 Energy Service Contract continues until then.
The same options for energy supply are available to you that you have had over the past number of years. These are listed below for your review and consideration.
- Cooperative Energy Rate Service
- Competitive (Contract) Retail Option. (for a list of licensed retailers visit www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca)
- Regulated Rate Option (defaulting to the government Regulated Rate is a requirement of the government in the absence of a consumer exercising choice of electricity supply).
If you require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (403) 227-4011 or toll free at 1-888-211-4011 and our staff will be pleased to assist you.
It is very important to note that your distribution system provider will always be CAREA regardless of who supplies your energy. Members who choose to obtain electricity (retail electricity services) from a party other than CAREA will not be disadvantaged or in any way be treated differently by CAREA.
